India to play Maldives in the final

India to play Maldives in the final

11-12-2009

INDIA will look to get revenge on the Maldives when the two sides contest the final of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Championship on Sunday (13).

The Bhangra Boys lost 1-0 in the final of the last edition of the competition which was held in the Maldives and Taiwan.

India, whose team consists of players from the u-23 squad, beat Bangladesh 1-0 thanks to Sushil Kumar Singh's strike in their semi-final over hosts Bangladesh today while the Maldives trounced Sri Lanka 3-0 in their game.

India, four-time winners, have now made it to the final of the SAFF championships for the seventh time out of the eight editions so far.

The 2003 edition was the only time India could not make it to the summit clash.

Sukhwinder Singh's boys were a totally transformed side after their lacklustre show in the group stages.

The final takes place at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka.
